Tag Spam
Posted: Saturday, March 22nd, 2008Greetings fellow freebloggers! I just wanted to pass along some tweaks I’ve put in place to minimize the amount of spam at free blog it. As you are probably aware there are plenty of people out there that want to abuse free resources like ours for their own commerical or personal interest. It it our job to try and minimize their ability to have their way with our blog system. We want ‘real’ blogs by ‘real’ people that attract a wide variety of visitors, and inspire feedback and a following. By minimizing the amount of ‘fake’ blogs we can attract better visitors, achieve better search engine rankings, and provide a better experience for all.
We have added a limit to the amount of characters that can be used to tag a post today in an attempt to minimize ‘tag spam’ which is the overoading of tags to make a post appear relevant to the widest amount of words. Although we don’t make extensive use of tags around the site yet, it is planned in our future, and cleaning up the abuse now will allow us to integrate tags in a meaningful way. The new home page layout makes use of categories, but we would like to integrate tags as well in the coming months.
I hope you understand and agree with this direction, but we are certainly willing to hear your feedback! Take care and happy blogging!
